Shubman Gill is one of the rising stars in Indian cricket who has produced some match-winning performances in all three formats of the game. While some experts disagreed with the decision to drop him for the fourth Test, India’s batting coach Abhishek Nair revealed the reason for replacing Gill with Washington Sundar in the playing XI.

“Looking at the pitch, we thought Vashi could provide unity with Jaddu, I feel for Shubman, but he understands. He’s not really left out, he just couldn’t find his way into the combination,” Nair was quoted as saying. Times of India.

“When you play a game there will be emotions, but it’s not as big as it seems, I wasn’t aware of what happened and I don’t know what was said,” Nair added.

Gill’s Performance in the Series

Talking about Gill’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the right-handed batsman has scored just 60 runs in the three innings he has played at an average of 20. His highest score so far in a five-match series is just 31. run

The 25-year-old leading batsman scored his last Test century against Bangladesh in Chennai in September. However, he has failed to show the consistency and run-scoring ability expected in the game.

Critics have targeted the Punjab batsman for his poor performances abroad in the longest format of the game. The team management will likely select Gill for the Sydney Test to help him improve his overseas record
