Al Duhail now focus on their Champions League Elite match after losing 3-2 at home to Al-Ahli Doha in the Qatar Stars League on Friday. They took the lead two times in the match, but still ended up losing after Driss Fettouhi scored a late winner for the away side.
Djamel Belmadi’s team has been in poor form for the last couple of months. Since the start of October, they have played ten games, winning only three and losing six.
Al Duhail usually play attacking football, and their matches often have lots of goals. In five of their last six games, both teams scored and the match had more than 2.5 goals.
Al Ittihad come to Qatar with good confidence after a tough 2-1 win in the Saudi Pro League on Friday. Karim Benzema scored first for the Tigers, but after Moussa Diaby got a red card, the team had to survive a tense ending at Alinma Stadium.
Even after bringing in Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao, the Saudi champions still cannot find steady form. Al Ittihad have not won two matches in a row since September, and they have dropped points in six of their last nine league and Champions League Elite games.
Their biggest problem has been in defence — they have conceded goals in all but one of their last ten matches in all competitions.
