Alex Carey Becomes Second Australian Wicketkeeper to Score a Test Century in Asia

Alex Carey Record in Asia: Sri Lanka batted first and scored 257 runs in the first innings of the second Test match played

Alex Carey Century:  Australiaโ€™s wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has played a brilliant century in the second Test match being played against Sri Lanka. He has achieved a big record in this century. Carey pulled the team out of a difficult situation with this inning.

Alex Careyโ€™s Record-Breaking Century

The Australian team faltered in the first innings of the second Test match. It lost three wickets for just 91 runs. After this, Carey and Steve Smith stood firm like Angad and did not let the team suffer a fourth blow till the end of the dayโ€™s play. Australia ended the day with 330 runs at the loss of three wickets.

Both of them made a partnership of 239 runs for the fourth wicket and strengthened the team. By the end of the dayโ€™s play, Smith was playing with 120 runs and Carey with 139 runs.

Carey did the work during this time which only one Australian wicketkeeper was able to do before him. Carey is only the second wicketkeeper from Australia to score a Test century on Asian soil. Before Carey, Adam Gilchrist had achieved this feat.

Gilchrist has scored four centuries in Asia. After him, Carey has now achieved this feat. Carey completed his century in 118 balls. He is unbeaten on 139 runs till the end of the dayโ€™s play.

In this innings, he has played 157 balls so far and has hit 13 fours and two sixes. Smith, on the other hand, has scored an unbeaten 120 runs facing 239 balls. Four fours and one six have come off his bat.

Smith and Carey Dominate Sri Lankan Bowlers

The Australian team had faltered in its first innings. Travis Head tried to play in a stormy style and scored 21 runs in 22 balls with the help of three fours.

Nishan Peiris made him his victim on a total score of 32. The teamโ€™s score had only increased by five runs when Prabhat Jayasuriya showed Marnus Labuschagne the way to the pavilion. He could score only four runs.

Khwaja and Smith once again seemed to be causing trouble for Sri Lanka. However, Khawaja was LBW by Nishan on a total score of 91. He managed to score 36 runs off 57 balls. He hit three fours in his innings.
