Umpiring Controversy During India vs New Zealand Match
After winning the toss in this match, New Zealand preferred batting. New Zealand started aggressively from the first ball, anticipating the pitch. So there was no doubt that a big score would be made. So the wicket was very important to prevent runs. But India has been hit by a mistake by the umpires. The umpires made a mistake that had never been heard or seen before. Because of this, captain Harmanpreet Kaur was very angry. Because she knew what a wicket could mean.
On the other hand, the Indian coach also came out of the dressing room and discussed with the fourth umpire. The shocking incident happened in the 14th over when New Zealand was batting. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur handed over the ball to spinner Deepti Sharma.
New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was in front of Deepti’s bowling. She plays the ball towards long off and completes a quick run. Also took a call to get a second run. By then the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur got the ball in her hands and she immediately threw it into the hands of the wicketkeeper. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh made no mistake put the ball on the stumps and appealed for the wicket. Emily Carr was clearly out of it and started walking towards the tent. But the controversy started here. As she doesn’t reach the boundary, the fourth umpire calls her again. Indian players were taken by surprise. He started questioning the umpires as to why exactly.
On the other hand, the second run was not lost in New Zealand’s account either. The umpire declared a single run. But the Indian players got angry in the important match. Every wicket is important in a big tournament. It would not be wrong to say that one has to suffer the fruits of karma. Amelia Kerr was caught on the very next ball.
