Assistant Coach on Bumrah’s Absence: The five-match Test series between India and England has reached its final and most crucial stage. England currently leads the series 2-1, and the fifth Test is being played at The Oval. Surprisingly, India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not part of the playing XI for this match. His absence has raised many questions among fans and experts, especially on a pitch that is helping fast bowlers.

India must win this match to level the series 2-2. In such an important game, not having Bumrah—India’s most reliable pacer—is a big concern. However, the Indian team management has explained the reason behind this decision.

What the Assistant Coach Said About Bumrah’s Absence

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate spoke about Bumrah’s absence during a press conference. He said that this was not a sudden decision. Before the start of the series, Jasprit Bumrah had informed the team that he would only be available for three of the five Tests. He left it to the team management to decide which three matches he would play.

Bumrah played in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tests—at Headingley, Lord’s, and Old Trafford—taking 14 wickets, including a five-wicket haul. He bowled a total of 119 overs in these three games, which is a heavy workload considering his injury history. The team management and medical staff felt it was wise to rest him now to avoid risking a future injury.

Why Resting Bumrah Was a Long-Term Decision

The assistant coach added that while it was a tough decision to keep Bumrah out of the final match, the long-term benefit for both the player and the team was more important.

Bumrah’s absence may hurt India’s chances in the 5th Test, but the team is thinking about the bigger picture—keeping their top bowler fit for future matches.
