Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup Squad Announced

Pat Cummins to Lead the Team as Australia Finalizes 15-Member Roster for the Cricket World Cup

Australia’s World Cup Squad: Australia has announced its 15-member squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, with Pat Cummins leading the team. The Australia Cricket Board has released the list of selected players, and there is little time left before the tournament begins, which will be hosted by India. All the teams are actively preparing for this mega event. Cricket Australia had initially announced an 18-member squad for the ODI World Cup last month, but now they have finalised the squad to 15 players, with the option to make changes until September 27.

Let’s take a look at who made it into the team and who was left out:

Australia’s ODI team has been victorious in the championship 5 times in the past. Among the three players who have been excluded from the squad, one of them is of Indian origin, spinner Tanveer Sangha. Additionally, fast bowler Aaron Hardy and all-rounder Nathan Ellis failed to secure their spots. It’s worth noting that last month, Marnus Labuschagne was not included in the initial 18-member squad, which was also surprising news for cricket enthusiasts.

The Australian team has opted for a balanced bowling attack, including four bowlers: Captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Sean Abbott. Glenn Maxwell has been included in the team as a spin all-rounder, and two spinners, Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa, have also earned their spots.

In preparation for the World Cup, the Australian team will engage in a three-match ODI series against India, which is crucial for both teams. This series will provide valuable insights into the teams’ readiness for the World Cup. The series matches between India and Australia are scheduled for September 22, 24, and 27. Australia’s first World Cup match will be against India on October 8.
