Bad news for Shreyas Iyer! Doors closed for return to Test team; BCCI is upset with the star’s performance in Duleep Trophy

Shreyas Iyer’s Return to Test Team Seems Tough

It is difficult for the Indian team’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer to return to the Test team at the moment. The selectors did not make Shreyas a part of the Indian team for the first Test against Bangladesh, as Iyer’s recent form is poor. In the current Duleep Trophy, he has been able to score only 104 runs in four innings. In the white ball match played against England earlier this year, youngsters like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel performed brilliantly, after which Iyer fell behind in the rankings.

Struggles in the Duleep Trophy

A BCCI official has claimed that there is no place for Shreyas Iyer in the current Test team. Iyer failed to take advantage of the batting-friendly pitches in the Duleep Trophy, due to which the selectors themselves are afraid to give him a chance.

The BCCI official told the Telegraph that there is no place for Shreyas Iyer in the Test team at the moment. Whose place will he take? Apart from this, his shot selection in Duleep has been a matter of concern. In the match played on Sunday, he was well set and then suddenly he played such a shot (off the ball of left-arm spinner Shams Mulani), which he probably should not have played. When you are set and then bat on a flat pitch, you have to make the best use of that opportunity.

Possible Miss for the Australia Tour

Shreyas Iyer might miss the upcoming Test series against Australia later this year. A BCCI official hinted that Iyer needs to work hard in the domestic circuit to regain his form. He could be included in Mumbai’s squad for the Irani Cup, and even if he plays in the Bangladesh T20 series, he may still have opportunities in domestic cricket to prove himself. Iyer’s ability to score runs in domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy will be key to his comeback. However, his struggle against short balls remains a concern for the Australian tour.
