Bangladesh is currently facing a chaotic situation, which may lead to the loss of its hosting rights for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Scheduled to begin in October, the tournament’s fate in Bangladesh is uncertain as the ICC has approached the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a final decision. Reports suggest that the ICC has given Bangladesh a limited time to confirm their ability to host the event, raising concerns that the hosting rights may be withdrawn.

BCB Requests More Time to Decide

According to sources from Cricbuzz, the BCB has requested an additional five days from the ICC before making a final decision. While the ICC initially planned to finalize the host on August 15, they have extended the deadline due to the BCB’s request. The Bangladesh Cricket Board will discuss the matter further in a meeting on August 20, where a final decision may be reached.

Meanwhile, the BCB has reportedly written to the army chief to ensure security for the tournament, though no official details have been released. If Bangladesh is unable to guarantee the necessary conditions for hosting, the ICC may transfer the tournament to another country, with the UAE emerging as a strong candidate. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has already declined the opportunity to host the tournament in India, and Sri Lanka has been ruled out due to the rainy season.
