Journey Details and Challenges

The champion team India had to wait a long time to reach home. It took 5 days and then 16 hours of air travel for India’s World Cup heroes to reach home. The team led by Rohit Sharma, his family, coaching support staff, and BCCI officials were stranded in Barbados due to Cyclone Beryl. The BCCI had to arrange for a specially chartered plane to bring the players home as soon as the airport became operational after the two-day shutdown.

India won the T20 World Cup 17 years after defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29 (Saturday). It was India’s first World Cup trophy after 2011. The celebrations were long overdue at the team hotel in Barbados, but India’s plans to return home were put on hold due to a hurricane in the Caribbean islands.
