BCCI Considers Phased Transition for Senior Players as India’s Test Future Hangs in Balance

BCCI on Senior Players

After the 0-3 defeat against New Zealand at home, many senior players are facing a lot of trouble. The BCCI will implement a structured phased policy before the start of the next WTC cycle.

Among the senior players, this may be the last Test series against Australia for these players – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. There may be an informal discussion between the BCCI chief officials and captain Rohit Sharma on the future strategy regarding senior players.

According to information received from unnamed sources, there will be an informal discussion to review the defeat against New Zealand. At present, the Indian team will leave for Australia on November 10. No changes have been made in the team for this.

India’s Senior Players Face Uncertain Futures Ahead of Australia Tour

According to sources, if the Indian team does not qualify for the WTC final, then all these four senior players may be in trouble. This may be their last Test series.  The BCCI is not in the mood to repeat the mistakes. Therefore, the Indian selectors, especially chairman Agarkar and head coach Gambhir, have decided to talk to senior cricketers about the future plan.

To qualify for the WTC final, the Indian team needs to win the series against Australia by 4-0 so that it does not have to depend on any other team. But this isn’t easy to happen. In such a situation, the Indian team will become dependent on other teams. If other teams do not perform well, then India can qualify even after losing the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal can take advantage of this opportunity

If the Indian team does not qualify after the end of the Australia series, then the BCCI can select other players for the five-Test series to be held in England from June 20. In which players like Sai Sudarshan, and Devdutt Padikkal are ready to woo international opportunities. Washington Sundar is also a strong contender for the team. The selectors will also keep an eye on Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance. Jadeja’s excellent performance and fitness on foreign pitches can keep him in the team. But according to the Indian pitch, Akshar Patel is a great option. Manav Suthar is in third place.

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s batting, he has scored 1210 runs in 35 innings at an average of 37.81 between February 2021 and Oct 2024, including four centuries. But Rohit Sharma’s performance in the last 10 innings has been abysmal.  He has had six scores of less than 10 runs and two scores of less than 20, which includes two half-centuries.

Virat Kohli has played 25 innings at home ground. In which he has scored 742 runs at an average of 30.91. He has also scored a century.

The pitch of Australia is excellent for batting. But after the shameful defeat against New Zealand, the performance of the Indian team is under suspicion. Looking at Kohli’s fitness, he can still get a place in the team for 4 years, but it is difficult for Rohit Sharma to get a chance again. Jasprit Bumrah will take charge of the team as captain. This is not a permanent solution due to workload.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the best options for the captaincy of the Test team.
