BCCI’s Central Contract Decision:
Before IPL 2024, BCCI announced central contracts with Team India players. BCCI removed Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from this list. He was given this punishment for not playing domestic cricket.
Usually, whenever BCCI takes any decision, the first boat to rise is on Board Secretary Jay Shah. But now Jay Shah has made a big revelation that he had no role in excluding Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the central contract list. This decision was taken by Team India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Jai Shah’s Clarification and Agarkar’s Authority:
Speaking to the media, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “You all can read the law. I just coordinate the meetings. Such decisions are in the hands of Ajit Agarkar. Release of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the contract. The decision was also his.” Both the players did not give importance to domestic cricket, hence they took this decision. My job is only to implement the decisions. Now a new player has come to the team in the form of Sanju Samson. This decision is also Agarkar’s.
Conversations with Iyer and Kishan:
When Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were dropped from the Indian team. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had discussed with both players after the latter was left out of the central contract list. Stating in this regard, Jay Shah said, “Yes, I spoke to both of them. These reports were also in the media.”
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer have performed well in IPL 2024. His return to the Indian team still seems far away. He was not included in the T20 World Cup team. The selectors ignored Ishan Kishan and chose Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as wicketkeeper batsmen. So Shreyas Iyer bats in the middle order, but the middle order position in the team is already filled.
