DEXA Test:
The BCCI held an important meeting on January 1, 2023, in which the Indian team also mentioned about the poor performance of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup last year. The Indian team management does not want to take any slack regarding the upcoming ODI World Cup. In this, along with many main issues, many decisions were taken regarding the fitness of the players. The most important decision was taken keeping in mind the ODI World Cup.

BCCI shortlisted 20 players for the ODI World Cup. Along with this, it was decided in the review meeting that the DEXA test is mandatory for the selected players. Let us know what is the need of the Daxa test for the players and why it was needed.

Till now the yo-yo test was necessary for the selection of players in the team. Players who passed the yo-yo test were given further chances in the team.
But recently the BCCI has also included a new test during the review meeting. The Dexa test was also made mandatory for the players along with the yo-yo test. Players will have to fulfill the prescribed criteria related to both these tests for selection in the team. The Dexa test is an imaging test, which uses X-ray technology to measure the strength of bones. Apart from this, this test also tells information about any kind of fracture in the bone even before it develops.

Why was there a need to bring the DEXA Test?

Indian team’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could not be a part of the Indian team due to injury in the T20 World Cup. The Indian team had to bear the brunt of this. England had given a crushing defeat to the Indian team by 10 wickets. At that time the Indian cricket management had to face a lot of criticism. In such a situation, in view of the focus on the fitness of the players in the future, the BCCI has made this test mandatory.

These three new proposals were introduced in the meeting.

1. Emerging players will now have to play continuously in the domestic series so that they can prepare for the selection of the national team.

2. Yo-Yo test and Dexa will be part of the selection process, which will be implemented on the players who are in the pool of the senior team.

3. Looking at the ODI World Cup 2023 and the rest of the series, the NCA will now talk to the IPL franchises and discuss the workload management of the players.
