Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid were present during the first review meeting of the BCCI on New Year’s Day today. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah conducted the meeting. NCA chief VVS Laxman and BCCI president Roger Binny also attended the meeting along with sacked selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma.
After the review meeting of the BCCI, some things came to the fore regarding the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. It is clearly visible from the signals of the BCCI that there is no threat to Rohit Sharma’s ODI and Test captaincy. Board sources said the officials have not found anything unsatisfactory about his leadership in ODIs and Tests.
No reshuffle in ODI and Test captaincy:
A BCCI source told PTI, “Rohit will continue to lead India in Tests and ODIs. At present, no decision has been taken regarding these two formats of cricket. The work of these two Rohit Sharma as captain was satisfactory. His captaincy record in Tests and ODIs is impressive. It was also decided that the pool of 20 players would be rotated till the 2023 World Cup Support. Chetan Sharma can remain on the post:
The inclusion of Chetan Sharma in the road map plan till the 2023 ODI World Cup indicates that he can be retained as the Chief Selector. At the moment, India’s focus is on qualifying for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). India has a good chance to make it to the finals. The focus on the 2023 ODI World Cup was also discussed in the meeting. New T20 captain Hardik Pandya was not a part of the meeting. Hardik is in Mumbai for the T20 International series against Sri Lanka starting on Tuesday.
