BCCI vs National Interest? Aaditya Thackeray Raises Strong Objection on Asia Cup

Aaditya Thackeray on Asia Cup: Amid the rising concerns over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Aaditya Thackeray, leader of the Thackeray group, has raised serious questions about the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a letter addressed to Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Thackeray criticized BCCI’s decision to send the Indian cricket team to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
He reminded that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said from the Red Fort that “water and blood cannot flow together.” Despite this clear message, Thackeray feels that BCCI’s move goes against national interests and undermines the sacrifices of soldiers who continue to defend the nation from terror attacks.
Aaditya Thackeray on Asia Cup: Questions BCCI’s Decision
Thackeray argued that over the years, Indian citizens and the Army have faced repeated terrorist attacks from Pakistan. In such a situation, playing cricket with the same country sends a wrong message, both to the people of India and the international community. He also pointed out that many nations in the past have refused to participate in sports for larger humanitarian causes, and terrorism is a far more serious issue.
According to him, the BCCI is prioritizing money and publicity over the dignity and sacrifices of soldiers. He raised the question—if India is sending delegations worldwide to expose Pakistan’s role in terrorism, then how can the country justify playing cricket with them at the same time?
Call for Unity on the Issue
Thackeray further mentioned that Pakistan has not only sponsored terror but also threatened Indian players in the past. He called it “shameful” that BCCI continues cricket ties only for its benefit. Stressing that politics should be kept aside, he urged all leaders to come together on this issue.
He recalled how political groups united to support the government during Operation Sindoor and urged them to take a similar united stand against Pakistan on the matter of cricket.
In conclusion, Aaditya Thackeray’s letter is not only a criticism of BCCI but also a call for the government and citizens to put national interest above the game, especially when the matter concerns terrorism and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
