Brazil vs Senegal Preview – Match Preview

Brazil won only 8 of their 18 World Cup qualifying matches, but still finished 5th in South America and made it through.

They hired Carlo Ancelotti as head coach in late May. Under him, Brazil first drew 0-0 with Ecuador, then won 1-0 against Paraguay and 3-0 against Chile.

Brazil ended their qualifiers with a 1-0 loss to Bolivia, where they created very few chances (only 0.34 xG) and had just 3 shots on target compared to Bolivia’s 10.

In mid-October, Ancelotti used his best players in a friendly against South Korea, which Brazil won 5-0. Estevão and Rodrygo scored two each, and Vinícius Jr also scored.

A few days later in Tokyo, Brazil went 2-0 up against Japan, but completely collapsed in the second half and lost 3-2.

Senegal, on the other hand, qualified for the 2026 World Cup by finishing 1st in their African Qualifiers Group A. They had seven wins and three draws, scoring 22 goals and conceding only 3.

Their most important win was a 3-2 comeback vs DR Congo in mid-September. They were 0-2 down after 33 minutes, but fought back, and Pape Sarr scored the winning goal just before injury time.

Senegal finished qualification last month with two easy wins — 5-0 against South Sudan and 4-0 against Mauritania. Sadio Mané played brilliantly with three goals and one assist.

Brazil vs Senegal: Team strengths vs risks

Team Strengths Risks / Weaknesses
Brazil Strong attacking players like Vinícius Jr, Rodrygo, Estevão, great individual skill and dribbling, solid midfield control with Casemiro & Bruno Guimarães, creative link play through Paquetá, high scoring potential in friendlies (5 goals vs South Korea), experience in big matches and tactical discipline under Carlo Ancelotti. Inconsistent results recently, defensive lapses (conceded 3 vs Japan), sometimes struggle to break tight defensive teams, low chance creation in some qualifiers (only 0.34 xG vs Bolivia), pressure on young players, slow starts in big matches.
Senegal Very strong defence (only 3 goals conceded in World Cup qualifiers), physical and fast team, dangerous on counterattacks, experienced leaders like Sadio Mané & Koulibaly, reliable goal scoring (5–0 vs South Sudan, 4–0 vs Mauritania), strong mentality shown in comeback vs DR Congo, excellent athleticism and pressing. Can struggle when opponents dominate possession, midfield can get stretched, rely heavily on Mané for creativity and finishing, occasional slow buildup, some vulnerability when chasing the game early, discipline issues under pressure.

Senegal have been in great form in their recent World Cup qualifiers, winning all of their last five matches and scoring 16 goals. Brazil’s defence has not been very solid in away games during the qualifiers, and they even lost their latest friendly against Japan.
