On Friday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended the membership of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board with immediate effect. The ICC Board, which convened today, found that Sri Lanka Cricket was in breach of its responsibilities as a member, particularly in the aspect of not managing its affairs autonomously and facing interference from its government in the administration of ICC. The terms of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course. As a result of this decision, Sri Lanka will not be able to participate in any ICC tournament.

Sri Lanka did not achieve notable success in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, winning only 2 out of 9 matches and finishing 9th in the points table. Consequently, they failed to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Following a humiliating defeat by India, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has been dissolved by the Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka. Simultaneously, the Sports Ministry has established an Interim Cricket Committee to ensure the smooth functioning of cricket in Sri Lanka.
The responsibility of leading this committee has been entrusted to former Sri Lanka captain Arjun Ranatunga.
