Before the match, Akash had said he expected England’s pitches to support seam bowlers. However, on arriving in Birmingham, he felt the conditions were similar to Indian pitches, which don’t offer much help to fast bowlers. But he didn’t let the conditions affect him and produced a memorable delivery that stunned everyone.
Former India cricketer Saba Karim praised Akash Deep’s delivery to Joe Root, calling it “unplayable.” He explained that when a bowler delivers from wide of the crease and angles the ball in, the batter expects it to come in. But Akash’s ball straightened after pitching, catching Root off guard.
“He created the perfect angle. Joe Root thought it would come in, but it went straight. That’s the kind of ball that even top players can’t play,” said Karim on Sony Sports.
Former batter Hemang Badani also praised Deep’s skill. He noted that Deep went almost to the sidelines while delivering the ball and created an angle that confused Root. “It was the best ball of the Test match,” said Badani.
