Glenn Maxwell Retirement: Maxwell’s Iconic 201* vs Afghanistan

Maxwell is not only one of the best players in Australia but also among the top players in ODI cricket. He played a remarkable innings of 201 runs against Afghanistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, held in India. This extraordinary performance by Maxwell led Australia to victory in a match that appeared impossible to win.

During that match, while chasing a target of 292 runs, the Australian cricket team found itself in a dire situation, losing 7 wickets for just 91 runs. However, despite facing adverse conditions and dealing with an injury, Maxwell delivered a match-winning innings of 201* runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Cricket pundits have hailed this innings as one of the greatest in ODI history.

A Look at Maxwell’s ODI Career

Glenn Maxwell, a 36-year-old cricketer, made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Afghanistan in 2012 at the Shahjahan Cricket Stadium. Over the following 15 years, he has played 149 ODIs for the Australian national team.

What’s Next for Maxwell?

Although Maxwell has retired from ODI cricket, he is not stepping away from the sport entirely. He will continue to play T20 Internationals for Australia and remain active in franchise leagues such as the IPL and the Big Bash League.

Cricket fans around the world will certainly miss watching him in the ODI format. We wish Glenn Maxwell all the best in the next chapter of his cricket career.
