Harry Brook Hits 9th Test Century, Saves England After Early Collapse

Harry Brook Century: Harry Brook was unable to achieve what he wanted in the first Test match against India in Leeds, but he accomplished it in the second match at Edgbaston. During this match, there was a notable coincidence that could have prevented him from scoring a century; however, it did not occur, and Brook completed his ninth Test century.

India scored 587 runs in this match based with 269 runs by captain Shubman Gill. England lost five wickets for just 84 runs in their first innings. After this, Brook and Jamie Smith set foot on the wicket and brought England back on the path. Smith completed his century before lunch on Friday on the third day, and Brook did this in the second session.

Harry Brook Scores Century in 2nd Test vs India at Edgbaston

Brook’s ninth Test century would have come in the second innings of the Test match played in Leeds, but then India’s fast bowler Prasidh Krishna dismissed Brook on a personal score of 99. This time, also when he was on 98 runs, Prasidh Krishna was batting.

Krishna could have put pressure on Brook because he had stopped Brook from completing a century in the last match. However, this time it did not happen. This coincidence did not work out for India, and on the last ball of the 51st over, Brook completed his century by hitting a four off Krishna.

Brook faced 137 balls for this century. In his innings, he hit 12 fours and a six. His innings has strengthened England a lot.

Game-Changing Double Century Partnership

The Brook-Smith duo stitched together a double-century partnership for the sixth wicket. Their stand has given England a solid chance to stay in the game after a poor start. Indian bowlers, including pace and spin, tried various plans, but both batters stood strong.

Captain Shubman Gill’s tactics couldn’t break their rhythm, and if India doesn’t dismiss one of them quickly, the game might slip out of India’s control despite their big first-innings score of 587 runs, powered by Gill’s 269.
