Shubman Gill on 2nd Test win: India secured a stunning 336-run victory over England in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Edgbaston, marking their first win at this venue.

The victory levelled the five-match series at 1-1 following a loss in Leeds. England collapsed for 271 runs while chasing a target of 608. With this impressive performance, India enters the Lord’s Test with renewed confidence and may welcome back pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Shubman Gill’s Record-Breaking Match Performance

This also ensured it was the first time India had won a Test in Birmingham. It took them 19 attempts to do. With this, India have levelled the series and will go into the third Test at Lord’s with renewed confidence after going down in the series opener by five wickets.

The upcoming game at Lord’s also potentially sees the return of Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah to their respective sides, which will spice up the contest even more.

It was a truly special batting effort by Shubman Gill after England had asked his team to bat first. He not only attained his first double-ton but also went on to get his highest Test score while shattering a whole lot of records along the way. Gill’s stellar innings was laced with 30 fours and three sixes. India ended up posting 587 in 151 overs.

What Shubman Gill said on the 2nd Test win

Speaking after the win, Shubman Gill reflected on the team’s turnaround, stating,

“All the things we spoke about after the first game, we were spot on. Our bowling and fielding was tremendous. If we score 400-500 on such wickets, we back ourselves.”

He praised Akash Deep, who picked up 10 wickets in the match, including a second-innings six-for.

“He bowled with so much heart and got the ball to move both ways. He was just magnificent for us.”

Gill also spoke about his form:

“I want to think like a batsman and manage risks that way. I’m feeling comfortable with my game.”

Looking ahead, he added:

“Very excited for the Lord’s Test. It’s an honour to lead India at the most iconic cricket stadium in the world.”

India’s historic victory at Edgbaston was driven by Shubman Gill’s record performance, Akash Deep’s first ten-wicket haul, and a strong collective bowling effort. With the series tied, all eyes are now on the Lord’s.
