IND vs ENG 2nd Test: The Indian Test team, led by captain Shubman Gill, made history by defeating England by 336 runs in the second Test match of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham. With this victory, India not only levelled the five-match series at 1-1 but also achieved their first-ever Test win at this venue.


Shubman Gill’s Double Century and Team India’s Strong Batting

Team India had set a target of 608 runs for victory in front of England. However, the bowlers bundled England out for 271 runs in 68.1 overs. With this, India won its first-ever Test victory in Birmingham. India also levelled the 5-match series 1-1. India thus avenged its first defeat in Leeds.

England won the toss and put India in to bat. India posted a mammoth 587 runs in the first innings on the back of captain Shubman Gill’s historic double century. Shubman scored 269 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 87, and Ravindra Jadeja scored 89. Washington Sundar scored 42 and Karun Nair added 31. India scored 587 runs in 151 overs.


IND vs ENG: Siraj and Akash Deep Shine with the Ball

After that, both Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep raised the bar for England in the first innings. Siraj took 6 wickets and Akash 4 wickets to bowl out England for 407 runs in 89.3 overs. This gave India a huge lead of 180 runs. After that, Shubman also exploded in the second innings.

Shubman scored 161 runs. The trio of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja made a decisive contribution by scoring half-centuries. KL Rahul scored 55, Rishabh Pant 65 and Ravindra Jadeja scored 69 not out. India declared their second innings at 427 for 6 in 83 overs. This set England a target of 608 runs on the fourth day.

India gave England 3 wickets for 72 runs by the end of the fourth day’s play. This increased India’s hopes of victory. Therefore, India needed 7 wickets on the fifth and final day. The start of play was delayed due to rain on the fifth day. It was thought that the match would remain a draw due to rain. However, the rain took a rest, and the match began.

Indian bowlers did a great job on the fifth day. Akash Deep alone bowled 6 England batsmen. While Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar took 1-1 wicket each to all out England and achieve a historic victory. Jamie Smith scored the highest 88 runs for England.
