Jamie Smith Hits 80-Ball Century in 2nd Test at Edgbaston

Jamie Smith Century in 2nd Test:  Hosts England made a powerful comeback on Day 3 of the second Test against India at Edgbaston. After being pushed to the wall by India’s pacers, the duo of Jamie Smith and Harry Brook stood tall and kept England in the fight.

Team India had bowled out England’s top five batters for just 84 runs, but a counter-attacking partnership turned the tide.

India had earlier posted a massive 587 runs in the first innings, led by Shubman Gill’s double century. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj then dismantled the England top order with some fiery pace. Siraj removed Joe Root and Ben Stokes off consecutive deliveries in the morning session. At 5/84, England looked set to be asked to follow on.

Jamie Smith’s Explosive Century Turns the Game

Just when India looked in control, Jamie Smith walked in and played one of the most attacking innings of the match. With aggressive intent, Jamie punished Indian bowlers all around the park. In one over bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Jamie smashed 23 runs, completely shifting the momentum.

Jamie completed his century in just 80 balls, playing at a strike rate of 126.25. His hundred included 14 fours and 3 sixes. This was Jamie Smith’s second Test century and his fastest ever. With this knock, Jamie equalled Harry Brook’s previous record of the third-fastest Test hundred for England.

Unbeaten Partnership Frustrates India

By lunch, England had reached 249/5 in 47 overs. Jamie Smith remained unbeaten on 102, while Harry Brook stood firm at 91 not out. Their 165-run unbeaten stand for the sixth wicket not only saved England from a collapse but also put pressure back on the Indian bowlers.

After lunch, India’s biggest challenge will be to break this partnership quickly to regain control of the match.
