MLC 2025: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will captain the Washington Freedom in the upcoming 2025 season of Major League Cricket. Last season, the team won the title under the leadership of Steve Smith. However, due to national commitments and limited availability, the franchise has decided to hand over the captaincy to Maxwell.
Glenn Maxwell Named Captain of Washington Freedom for MLC 2025
Glenn Maxwell, who recently retired from ODI cricket, has a lot of experience captaining in the Big Bash League. Maxwell has captained the Melbourne Stars in 65 matches, in which the team won 34, while the team faced defeat in 30 matches. Also, one match did not result in a win. Apart from this, he has also captained Punjab Kings in IPL 2017, in which the team won seven out of 14 matches, and they missed out on making it to the playoffs.
On the other hand, Washington Freedom has also shared a post from its official X account regarding handing over the captaincy to Maxwell. Steve Smith will captain the team in two matches to be played during the season.
