He was bought by the Kochi Blue Tigers for a record ₹26.80 lakh, becoming the most expensive player ever in the tournament’s short history. Samson, who missed the first edition due to national duties, will now be seen in action in Kerala’s top T20 league.
Sanju Samson Joins Kochi Blue Tigers for ₹26.80 Lakh
Sanju Samson’s base price was only ₹3 lakh, but bidding for the wicketkeeper-batsman skyrocketed due to his vast experience in international cricket and the IPL. Despite being left out of the Kerala squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, he made a massive comeback in the KCL auction.
Sanju missed the first edition of the Kerala Cricket League as he was busy with Team India. This year, however, his return is highly anticipated. The Kochi Blue Tigers now have a strong leader and match-winner in their camp.
Sanju had informed the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) that he needed a break after playing continuous cricket from March to July, including the IPL, T20 World Cup, and tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. As a result, his name was not even listed in the Vijay Hazare squad.
“Sanju has been playing non-stop cricket and needed a break,” KCA said earlier.
Vishnu Vinod and Jalaj Saxena Among Top Picks
Apart from Sanju, Vishnu Vinod was the second-most expensive player in the KCL 2025 auction. He was bought by Aries Kollam for ₹13.8 lakh. Vishnu has played for top IPL teams like SRH, RCB, DC, MI, and PBKS.
Domestic veteran Jalaj Saxena was also picked for ₹12.4 lakh by Alleppey Ripples. His experience and all-around ability will be a big boost for his side.
KCL 2025 Schedule Yet to Be Announced
The official schedule and match fixtures for Kerala Cricket League 2025 are expected to be announced soon. With Sanju Samson’s return, fan excitement is at an all-time high for Season 2.
