Shubman Gill Century in 2nd Test: Team India’s captain Shubman Gill is proving unstoppable in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. After smashing a brilliant double century (269) in the first innings, Shubman followed it up with a superb 161-run knock in the second innings.
With this, he became only the second Indian player and ninth overall to score a double century and a century in the same Test match.
Shubman Gill Creates History with Century in Both Innings
Shubman’s second innings century came off 129 balls, where he struck 8 fours and 3 sixes. He later accelerated and ended his innings at 161 runs in 162 balls, hitting 13 fours and 8 sixes, finishing with a strike rate of 99.38. This was also Shubman’s eighth Test century and his first as captain in the second innings.
Earlier in the match, Shubman had already written his name into the record books by scoring a massive 269 runs in the first innings. He became the first Indian captain to score a double century in England. At just 25 years old, he also became the youngest Indian cricketer to have double centuries in both ODI and Test formats.
Shubman batted with full control and style, punishing the English bowlers across all parts of the ground. His double century was crucial in taking India’s total to 587 runs in the first innings. He hit 30 fours and 3 sixes during his 387-ball stay at the crease
Gill Equals Gavaskar’s Legendary Record
With a century in both innings, Shubman has now matched the record of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who had scored 124 and 220 against West Indies in 1971. This feat puts Shubman in elite company and highlights his rise as a dependable and fearless Test captain.
The BCCI also celebrated the moment with a tweet, calling Shubman’s performance “brilliant stuff” and applauding his leadership. With the series still ongoing, fans now expect even greater performances from the young captain as India eyes a historic win on English soil.
