Shubman Gill Creates History with First Double Century in Tests

Shubman Gill Double Century:  Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has created history on English soil. Shubman has scored a historic double century against England in his second Test match as captain. This is the first double century in Shubman’s Test career.

Shubman has created numerous records to his name with this double century. He was made captain before this series after Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket. Shubman scored a century in the first match played in Leeds.

Shubhman Gill’s Double Century on Day 2

Shubman completed this double century on the second day of the second Test against England at the Edgbaston ground in Birmingham. He completed 200 runs with a single off the first ball of the 122nd over. Shubman faced 311 balls for his double century. Shubman completed this double century with the help of 21 fours and 2 sixes.

First Asian Captain to Score 200 in England

Shubman has become the first Indian captain to score a double century in England. No Asian captain has scored a double century in England so far. Earlier, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored 179 runs as captain for India in England. Azharuddin had scored 179 runs in Manchester in 1990. The record of 193 runs as an Asian captain in England was held by former Sri Lankan captain Tillakaratne Dilshan. Dilshan had achieved this feat at Lord’s in 2011.

Shubman has made a place in the list of honours with this double century. Shubman has become the third Indian batsman to score a double century in England. Before Shubman, both the legends Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar had achieved this feat for India.

Gavaskar had scored 221 runs in 1979. After that, Rahul Dravid scored 217 runs at the Oval after 23 years in 2002. Now, after 23 years, Shubman has achieved this feat.

Big Partnership with Ravindra Jadeja

Meanwhile, Shubman shared a double-century partnership for the sixth wicket with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja before his double century. Shubman and Jadeja added 203 runs for the sixth wicket. The duo played a crucial role in putting the Indian team in a strong position by putting together a double-century partnership.

Now, fans will be hoping for an even bigger total and possibly a match-winning lead.
