Shubman Gill Century in 2nd Test: Team India’s young captain, Shubman Gill, has scored a magnificent century on the first day of the second Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Team India’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to score a century at Edgbaston after Leeds. Yashasvi was dismissed for 87 runs. As a result, Yashasvi was 13 runs away from his second consecutive century.
However, captain Shubman Gill did not make the same mistake as Yashasvi. Shubman gave the fans a chance to cheer by scoring a century. This was Shubman’s second consecutive century as captain. Also, this was Shubman’s seventh century in his Test career and his fourth century against England.
Shubhman Gill Completes Century in Style at Edgbaston Test
Shubman completed his half-century in 125 balls. Shubman then added the next 50 runs in 74 balls. Shubman hit a four on the sixth ball of the 80th over bowled by Joe Root and completed his century. Shubman thus scored 102 runs not out in 199 balls. Shubman completed this century at a strike rate of 51.26. Shubman scored 44 of his 102 runs with the help of these fours. Shubman hit 11 fours in this innings.
Shubman made his debut as captain in the first Test against England in Leeds. Shubman scored a century in his first innings in Leeds. Shubman scored 147 runs in that match in 227 balls. Shubman’s innings included 19 fours and 1 six. After that, Shubman repeated the Leeds performance at Edgbaston and scored his second consecutive century. This is the 16th century in Shubman’s international career.
Equals Virat Kohli’s Record at Edgbaston
Meanwhile, Shubman has done another feat with this innings. Shubman has equalled the record of former captain Virat Kohli. Shubman has become the second Indian captain to score a century at the Edgbaston ground. Earlier, Virat Kohli had done this. Virat had done this feat in 2018
Yashasvi Jaiswal Misses Out on Century
Meanwhile, Yashwahi also had a chance to do the same as Shubman. However, England captain Ben Stokes prevented Yashasvi from scoring a century by dismissing him. Ben Stokes caught Yashasvi out on a short and wide ball to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. Yashasvi scored 87 runs in 107 balls with the help of 13 fours.
Even though Yashasvi missed the ton, both openers gave India a strong start on Day 1.
