South Africa’s Playing XI for WTC Final 2025: Bavuma’s Men Ready for Historic Battle

WTC Final 2025: Kagiso Rabada's 5-Wicket Haul Rocks Australia on Day 1

South Africa’s Playing XI for WTC Final 2025: South Africa and Australia are all set to clash in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025. While Australia are the defending champion, this is South Africa’s first-ever appearance in a WTC Final.

The Proteas will be aiming to end their long wait for an ICC trophy—something they haven’t won since 1998. In a bold move, South African captain Temba Bavuma announced the playing XI a day before the big final. With a balanced mix of youth and experience, the team looks determined to make history.

South Africa’s Playing XI: Solid Opening and Top Order Setup

South Africa will begin their innings with skipper Temba Bavuma partnering Aiden Markram at the top. Bavuma, who has remained unbeaten as Test captain so far, will look to lead from the front in this high-pressure match. Markram, known for his attacking style, will aim to provide a quick and confident start.

At No. 3, Ryan Rickelton has been given a key role. The left-handed batter has shown consistency in domestic cricket and will be crucial in building partnerships.

Strong Middle Order with All-Round Support

The middle order features Wiaan Mulder at No. 4 and Tristan Stubbs at No. 5. Both players are capable of stabilising the innings and rotating strike. Mulder also adds value with the ball, making him a handy all-round option.

David Bedingham will bat at No. 6, followed by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne at No. 7. Bedingham’s ability to handle spin and pace alike gives depth to the lineup, while Verreynne’s experience behind the stumps and with the bat makes him a vital part of the team.

Balanced Bowling Attack with Pace and Spin

South Africa’s bowling unit is well-balanced. All-rounder Marco Jansen will bowl left-arm pace and is set to bat at No. 8. His performance with both bat and ball can significantly influence the match in South Africa’s favour.

Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin department. His control and experience in red-ball cricket make him a reliable option, especially on a neutral surface.

The pace attack will be handled by the dynamic duo of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Both are known for their ability to take early wickets and challenge batters with their pace and bounce.
