In Mumbai, the final of the World Test Championship 2023-2025 has drawn nine teams. The result of each test match has a significant impact on the points table.
India gained an advantage after drawing the Test series in South Africa 1-1, propelling them from sixth to first position due to a substantial difference in winning percentage.
However, within two days, Australia snatched India’s first place by defeating Pakistan 3-0 in a three-match Test series. This victory provided Australia with a significant edge in winning percentage, allowing them to leap from the fourth position to the first position.
Now, if India aims to reclaim the top spot in the points table, they must enhance their winning percentage in the upcoming series against England.
On the other hand, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 before going on tour to Australia. So the winning percentage was 100 and occupied the first position. But after moving to Australia, the number one addiction came down in one fell swoop.
Pakistan’s winning percentage dropped sharply after Australia gave Pakistan a white wash. India, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh have benefited from it.
Preceding the series against Pakistan was a five-match Ashes series between England and Australia, which ended in a 2-2 tie. However, England experienced a significant loss in this series, as a slow over rate resulted in the deduction of points from their winning percentage.
This deduction caused a substantial drop in their overall marks. Presently, the England team occupies the eighth position in the points table with a winning percentage of 15.
Similar to England, India has also been impacted by a slow over rate, leading to the deduction of two points in the first match against South Africa.
A two-match Test series is underway between New Zealand and South Africa. South Africa has chosen the second team for this series, causing a stir in the sports world in recent days.
Former Australian player Steve Waugh has expressed his views on this team selection. If South Africa loses the series against New Zealand, it could deal a significant blow.
Therefore, sports lovers are now keeping a close eye on the India-England and New Zealand-South Africa series.
