Conway’s Strategic Move
Devon Conway has not entirely parted ways with the central contract but has taken a selective approach, much like former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. Conway has signed a contract allowing him to play as many matches as possible for the New Zealand team while balancing his T20 league commitments. He has, however, excluded himself from the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for early next year. During this period, Conway will be participating in the SA20 League in South Africa.

Finn Allen’s Decision
Like Conway, Finn Allen has also chosen to step back from the central contract offered by New Zealand Cricket. Unlike Conway, Allen has not signed any specific contract with the board. However, he remains available to join the New Zealand team whenever needed. Allen, known for his explosive batting, has been part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, although he is not currently affiliated with any IPL franchise. With his talent, a team will likely pick him up in the upcoming IPL season.
This trend of players prioritizing T20 leagues over national contracts highlights the growing influence of franchise cricket on international players
