In the second qualifier of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), the Dindigul Dragons, led by Ravichandran Ashwin, defeated the IDream Tirupur Tamilians to secure their place in the finals. The match took place in Chennai, with Dindigul’s captain Ashwin winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

Tirupur’s Struggles with the Bat
The decision to bowl first proved advantageous as the Tirupur batsmen struggled against the Dindigul bowlers. The Tirupur team was dismissed for just 108 runs in 19.4 overs. A total of six Tirupur players were dismissed for single-digit scores. Despite the collapse, Maan Pabna (26 runs), Ganesh, and Amit Sadhvik managed to help their team reach a modest total. For Dindigul, Vignesh was the standout bowler with 3 wickets, while Subod Bhatti and Varun Chakraborty took 2 wickets each.

Dindigul’s Strong Chase
Chasing a target of 109 runs, the Dindigul Dragons started confidently. Openers Vimal Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin built a solid partnership, scoring 81 runs for the first wicket. Vimal Kumar was dismissed after contributing 28 runs, but Ashwin continued to play aggressively. He scored a crucial half-century, leading Dindigul to a swift victory.
By the end of 10.5 overs, Dindigul had scored 112 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, securing a 9-wicket win. The victory ensures that Dindigul Dragons will face Laika Coimbatore Kings in the TNPL final, scheduled for August 4th.
