Drawn Kanpur Test Could Impact India’s WTC Points Table Lead

Kanpur Test

The second match (Kanpur Test) of the two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh is currently underway at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. On the first day, only 35 overs were played, and the match was interrupted due to rain on the second day. Today, on the third day, the match has not yet started due to a wet pitch.

The Indian team leads the series 1-0. If today’s play is canceled due to rain, what effect will this have on the WTC Points Table? This is the question on every cricket fan’s mind. India currently holds the top position, while Bangladesh is ranked sixth.

Effect on the WTC Points Table if the Kanpur Test drawn:

India is currently at the top of the WTC Points Table with 71.67 percentage points, while Bangladesh is in sixth place with 39.29 percentage points. India, being a strong contender to win this match, will suffer more from a drawn result compared to Bangladesh. If the match is drawn, the points will be equally shared between both teams. In such a case, both teams will receive four points each. However, if India wins, they will secure 12 points.

If the match is drawn, India’s percentage points will drop to 68.18%. In contrast, if India wins, their percentage points will increase to 74.24%. Thus, a draw will significantly impact India’s standings more than Bangladesh’s.

On the other hand, if Bangladesh pulls off an unexpected win, they could move up to fourth place, with 46.87 percentage points. If the match is drawn, Bangladesh’s percentage points will drop slightly to 38.54%. However, the chances of Bangladesh winning are slim.

India has nine more Test matches to play before the WTC final, needing to win at least five. After the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh, India will face New Zealand in three matches and host Australia for a five-match series. Hence, if this match is drawn, India’s path ahead will become more challenging.
