The England team replacing Jason Roy with Harry Brook
The England team has undergone a significant alteration for the 2023 World Cup, with Harry Brook replacing the opening batsman, Jason Roy. Roy, who played a pivotal role in England’s 2019 World Cup victory, has been excluded from the squad due to a back problem that prevented him from participating in any matches against New Zealand.
David Malan, his replacement, performed exceptionally well as an opener, amassing 277 runs in three matches at an average of 92.33. Thanks to his outstanding performance, Malan will now be seen opening the innings alongside Jonny Bairstow in the upcoming World Cup.
In place of Jason Roy, Harry Brook has joined the team and played three matches against New Zealand, scoring 25, 2, and 10 runs in his innings. He batted as an opening batsman in two of these matches. Brook made his debut earlier this year and has appeared in a total of six ODI matches thus far. His performance in Test cricket has been outstanding, and he garnered attention with his aggressive play and a century in 41 balls during The Hundred.
When examining the statistics of Jason Roy’s previous matches, it becomes apparent that Roy’s average and strike rate have declined since the last World Cup. However, he did achieve century innings against South Africa and Bangladesh.
