In the final match of the Asia Cup 2023, held at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium on September 17, India clinched the championship title by defeating Sri Lanka with a resounding 10-wicket victory. This triumph marks India’s eighth Asia Cup win and has garnered well-wishes from various quarters, from cricket legends like Virender Sehwag to political figures such as Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. The credit for India’s victory in this match largely goes to fast bowler Mohammad Siraj, who dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup by claiming six wickets for just 21 runs in his seven overs. Hardik Pandya took three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah secured one for the team. The Sri Lankan team, batting first, was restricted to a mere 50 runs in 15.2 overs. In response, Indian openers Ishan Kishan (23) and Shubman Gill (27) briskly secured 51 runs in just 6.1 overs, sealing a convincing win for their team.
