Gambhir on Hardik Pandya: The Board of Cricket in India recently announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Interestingly, before addressing the press, before selecting Rohit Sharma as the captain, the BCCI held a long meeting to discuss the team.

Gambhir Wanted Pandya as Vice-Captain, Rohit Backed Gill

However, recently there were reports that head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma had different views on the selection of the Indian team’s vice-captain. Interestingly, Shubman Gill was selected as Rohit’s vice-captain. However, some reports surfaced that Gambhir wanted to see Hardik Pandya as India’s vice-captain, but Rohit and Agarkar agreed on Gill.

Moreover, Gambhir was also in favour of picking Sanju Samson in the squad, but Rohit was happy to pick Rishabh Pant as the first choice.

Basit Ali Warns Against Dressing Room Leaks

After Team India’s defeat in the recent BGT 2024-25, there were reports of Gautam Gambhir’s chats with Indian players being leaked.

Reacting to such rumours. Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali came forward and opined that such news harms Indian cricket and advised Gautam Gambhir to resolve the matter.

“Sarfraz Khan was blamed for leaking the dressing room conversation to the media. The review meeting conversation also came out in the open. This is not good for the team as it affects the unity of the team.

There should be no recrimination and Gautam Gambhir should play a role to stop it. Captain and coach, “Sarfaraz Khan was not present in the meeting between the chief selector and BCCI officials,” Basit Ali was quoted as saying by CricketToday.

“If you win against England, it will be good for you before the Champions Trophy, but if you lose, the confidence level will go down,” he added.
