โ€œNo Excuses Mentalityโ€ โ€“ Glenn Phillips

However, the practical advantage that India has over the Kiwis going into the upcoming match is the adjustment they have made over the last three weeks, as they have played all their matches in Dubai, which is the host city of the eight-team tournament.

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips opined that the nature of the tournament is such that India has to play all their matches in Dubai, but they donโ€™t need to make any excuses about it.

Asked about the advantage India has going into the upcoming match against favourites India, Phillips said that New Zealand are not the kind of team that will make excuses for a poor performance. The cricketer added that their game plan against the Men in Blue is good and we will be used on match day in Dubai.

โ€œFor us, there is no focus on anything like that. Of course, the draw of the tournament is what it is. We have a no-excuses mentality to go into the tournament,โ€ Phillips said at a pre-match press conference on Saturday.

โ€œYou have done what you have done and India have got what they have got. We will never complain about what we have got and we will make the best of what we have got,โ€ he added.

โ€œDubai Pitch is Slow, India Has Quality Spinnersโ€ โ€“ Phillips on IND vs NZ Match

Taking stock of the conditions at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which is the venue for the upcoming match, Phillips said India have quality spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, followed by New Zealand having quality all-rounders like Mitchell Santner, himself and Rachin Ravindra. He feels both teams have covered most of their bases, which will make this a close contest.

โ€œWe have our game plans against India. They are an incredibly strong team and they have almost all the bases covered. So, for us, itโ€™s about looking at the pitches and the recent results.

The pitches in Dubai are playing a bit slow and obviously, there is a good turn there. So, I think itโ€™s going to be an interesting match. They have three quality spinners and we have a lot of all-rounders as well. So, we have a lot of bases covered no matter what the situation is,โ€ he added.
