Mumbai Clinches Irani Cup After 27 Years
The Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai team lifted the Irani Cup by defeating the rest of India. Mumbai Cricket Association to give Rs 1 crore to Mumbai Ranji team for winning Irani Cup after 27 years. Ajinkya Rahane-led Ranji champions Mumbai won the trophy on the strength of a first-innings lead in the match at Lucknow on Saturday. Earlier, the Mumbai team last won this trophy in 1997.
Apart from BCCI’s prize money of Rs 50 lakh, Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap announced an additional prize money of Rs 1 crore at the felicitation ceremony on Monday. Although Indian team player Ajinkya Rahane is away from international cricket, he is consistently performing well in domestic cricket. A few months ago, the Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy. This year, under his leadership, Mumbai lifted the Irani Cup title. Rahane is seen as Mumbai’s most successful captain. As usual, the Ranji Trophy match was played between the winning team and the rest of India. The match ended in a draw, but a good first innings lead sealed Mumbai’s victory. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 held on Australian soil, Team India under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane had a historic performance.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai team once again remained invincible. Mumbai, the most successful team in Indian domestic cricket, has won the Irani Cup 2024 title. In the Irani Cup, there was a tough fight between Mumbai and the rest of India. But, as the match ended in a draw, the title went to Mumbai.
Mumbai, led by Ajinkya Rahane, benefited from the first-innings lead. Prithvi Shaw and Mohit Awasthi scored half-centuries for Mumbai on the final day. At the same time, Tanush Kotian scored a brilliant century to draw the match. Mumbai was declared the winner due to the first innings lead. Mumbai achieved the feat of lifting the Irani Cup 15 times. Under the leadership of Rahane, the Mumbai team also became champions in the Ranji Trophy.
