Shubman Gill: Gujarat Titans’ path to the playoffs in the Indian Premier League 2023 is now almost certain, following their 56-run victory over Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) on Sunday. The Titans posted a massive score of 227 runs for two wickets in 20 overs, while LSG managed only 171 runs for seven wickets in their chase.
Shubman Gill, who was the hero of Gujarat’s victory, played a brilliant innings of 94 runs, earning praise from many. However, former Team India cricketer Virender Sehwag was not happy with Gill’s batting and gave a big response explaining his reasons for dissatisfaction.
Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill has been in excellent form this season, delivering one outstanding innings after another. In 11 matches, he has scored 469 runs at an impressive average of 46, including four half-centuries. However, he missed out on his century against Lucknow by just 6 runs. Prior to his latest performance, Virender Sehwag expressed his disappointment with Gill’s performance, saying:
“If I were Shubman Gill, I would not be happy with myself. I’ve been in good form and have scored 375 runs. I should have done better – 550 runs would be a reasonable target for me to aim for in 10 matches by the end of the season. Gill has played all formats for India, scored big runs, and should make better use of his form. By the end of the season, he might have 600-700 runs.”
Shubman Gill is now in the running for the Orange Cap. Faf du Plessis currently holds the top spot with 511 runs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has climbed to second place with 477 runs. Shubman Gill is now in third place with 469 runs from 11 matches. With some good innings, he could soon overtake Faf du Plessis to claim the top position.
