ENG vs IND Oval Test: The 5th Test match between India and England at The Oval turned into one of the most exciting finishes in Test cricket history. At the end of Day 4, England needed just 35 runs with 4 wickets in hand, and most people believed they would easily win the match. On Day 5, England started with two boundaries off Prasidh Krishna, and it looked like the match was over. But then came a fiery spell from Mohammed Siraj, which completely changed the game.
Siraj took 3 of the last 4 wickets, while Prasidh Krishna picked 1, and India won the match by just 6 runs. With this win, India levelled the 5-match Test series 2-2 and ended a 77-year wait by winning the final Test match of a series on foreign soil.
A Special Win Under Shubman Gill’s Captaincy at Oval Test
This is the first time that India has won the last match of a five-Test series while on a foreign tour. India has played 16 Test series abroad before. But each time they had to face defeat in the last match. But this time, nothing like that happened.
India defeated England at the Oval. In this series, India was trailing 1-2. But they drew the fourth match and won the fifth. England had a total of 4 wickets on the last day. Out of these, 3 wickets were taken by Mohammed Siraj alone. At the same time, Prasidh Krishna managed to take one wicket. In this match, Mohammed Siraj took 9 wickets and Prasidh Krishna took 8 wickets.
Narrowest Test Win Ever for India
This 6-run win is now India’s narrowest Test win in terms of runs. Previously, India had:
-
Won by 13 runs vs Australia (Wankhede, 2004)
-
Won by 28 runs vs England (Kolkata, 1972)
-
Won by 31 runs vs Australia (Adelaide, 2018)
But never had they won by such a tiny margin, and that too abroad.
This incredible comeback showcased India’s resilience, teamwork, and the emergence of new leaders like Gill, Siraj, and Krishna.
