ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Points Table Update
England started their campaign with a win against defending champions Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Australian Women’s team defeated the Sri Lankan team by 6 wickets in the afternoon session match on Saturday 5th October. Then in the match of the evening session, the England team defeated the Bangladesh women’s team by 21 runs.
Team India in Trouble
After the victory against Sri Lanka, the Australian team reached the second position in the points table of the ‘A’ group. In this group, the Indian women’s team appears to be at the bottom. Harmanpreet brigade seems to have taken a big hit in the net run rate as they lost the first match against New Zealand by a big margin. Indian women’s team now needs to win against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia to stay in the tournament. Even a loss in one of these matches can spoil the calculations of Team India. Because the Indian women’s team is far behind in the run rate.
Apart from Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan have started with a win in Group ‘A’. New Zealand tops the list with the best net run rate, including a big win against the Indian women’s team. His net run rate is 2.900. Australia is second with a net run rate of 1.90 while Pakistan is third with a net run rate of 1.550. In this group, the team of Sri Lanka along with India has not been able to open an account.
After the victory in the match against Bangladesh, the England team has reached the top position in the ‘B’ group. Bangladesh and South Africa have won one match each in this group. But England is the topper with the best run rate. West Indies and Scotland are yet to win.
