India Struggles on Day 1 of 5th Test Against Australia
Indian team’s regular captain Rohit Sharma had dropped himself from the Sydney Test. In such a situation, Jasprit Bumrah won the toss in the Sydney Test and chose to bat first, but who would have thought that the big grass seen on the pitch would prove to be a nightmare for the batsmen? From the first over itself, Team India’s batsmen were seen struggling to score runs and KL Rahul returned to the pavilion after scoring just 4 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in good rhythm in the Melbourne Test, but Scott Boland made him his victim in Sydney. There was a 40-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, but the batsmen were struggling to score every run.
Gill once again got a start, but could not convert it into a big innings. He scored 20 runs. Kohli’s love for balls outside the off-stump is not ending. He had set up at the crease after playing 68 balls, but Scott Boland dismissed him on a score of 17 on a ball outside the off-stump.

Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah’s Key Contributions for India
Rishabh Pant proved to be the top scorer of the Indian team, who played an innings of 40 runs. Many balls hit Pant’s helmet, hand and stomach, but in the end, Boland’s deadly bowling spell dominated him. Pant was hitting good shots, but like the Melbourne Test, here too he lost his wicket in the pursuit of collecting boundaries.
He made an important partnership of 48 runs with Ravindra Jadeja. Last match’s centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy became a victim of a golden duck. India had good batsmen till the eighth order, but Washington Sundar also failed to show anything special and lost his wicket on the score of 14.
Australia’s Response: Early Setback in Chase
The Indian team lost the eighth wicket on the score of 148. Looking at the rhythm of the Australian bowlers, it seemed as if the Indian team would be limited to a score of 155-160. But captain Jasprit Bumrah, swinging the bat continuously, collected 3 fours and a six in his blazing innings of 22 runs.
It is because of him that India has been able to reach the score of 185 runs. Scott Boland proved to be the most effective bowler for Australia, who took a total of 4 wickets. Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets, Pat Cummins took 2 wickets and Nathan Lyon took one wicket.
