IND vs ENG 4th Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks 51-Year-Old Record at Old Trafford

IND vs ENG 4th Test: India made a steady start on Day 1 of the 4th Test match against England at Old Trafford. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul gave India a strong foundation by adding 94 runs for the first wicket. After KL Rahul got out, Yashasvi took the lead and played confidently. He reached his half-century in 96 balls and went on to score 58 runs off 107 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six.
With this knock, Jaiswal created history. He became the first Indian opener in 51 years to score a fifty at Old Trafford. Before him, only Sunil Gavaskar had achieved this milestone in 1974. This is a big achievement, especially considering how tough this ground has been for Indian openers over the decades.
IND vs ENG 4th Test: Jaiswal Completes 1000 Test Runs vs England
This innings also helped Yashasvi reach another major milestone — 1000 Test runs against England. He now has one century, two double centuries, and five fifties against England. His average against them is an impressive 66.86.
Overall, Jaiswal has now scored 2089 runs in Test cricket, with nearly half of those runs coming against England. He is now the 20th Indian to score 1000 or more Test runs against England. Interestingly, he reached this milestone in just 16 innings, becoming the second-fastest Indian to do so after Rahul Dravid (15 innings). He shares the second spot with Mohammad Azharuddin, who also took 16 innings.
Shubman Gill Fails Again, India Under Pressure
After Jaiswal and KL Rahul were dismissed, all eyes were on skipper Shubman Gill. But he failed to deliver again, scoring just 12 runs off 23 balls before falling to Ben Stokes.
Now, India must win this match to stay alive in the series. England currently leads the series 2-1, and if India doesn’t win, they must at least draw this match to take the battle to the fifth Test.
