New Zealand Wins Historic Test in India After 36 Years

The New Zealand cricket team has created history under the leadership of Tom Latham. New Zealand has started the Test series against India with a win. New Zealand won the first Test match in Bangalore by 8 wickets against Team India.

Team India challenged New Zealand by 107 runs for victory. New Zealand completed this challenge by losing 2 wickets in 27.4 overs. With the win, New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series and ended a 36-year wait. It was New Zealand’s third win against India and first since 1988.

Rachin Ravindra: The Game Changer

Rachin Ravindra was the architect of New Zealand’s victory. Ravindra played decisive knocks in the first and second innings to lay the foundation for New Zealand’s win. Rachin scored an unbeaten 39 in the second innings. So in the first innings, he made a game-changing partnership of 137 runs for the eighth wicket with Tim Southee.

This partnership tilted the match in New Zealand’s favor. Rachin scored a century in the first innings. It was Rachin’s first century in India and second in his Test career. Rachin scored 134 runs off 157 balls in the first innings.

The entire first day’s play was lost due to rain. On the next day, Team India won the toss and decided to bat, but New Zealand bowled out Rohitsene for 46 runs in the first innings. New Zealand then scored 402 runs in the first innings to take a solid lead of 356 runs. New Zealand had lost their 7th wicket at 233. But both Rachin and Tim Southee shared a partnership of 137 runs for the eighth wicket. So New Zealand could reach 400.

Apart from Ravindra, Devon Conway scored 91 and Tim Southee added 65 runs in the first innings for New Zealand. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav both took 3 wickets each from Team India. Mohammad Siraj dismissed both. While Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin both got 1 wicket each.

Team India scored 462 runs in reply to 356 in the second innings. But Team India lost the last 7 wickets for just 54 runs. Sarfraz Khan contributed the highest 150 runs for India in this inning. Rishabh Pant was dismissed on 99 runs. While Virat Kohli contributed 70 runs and captain Rohit Sharma 52 runs. So, after Team India got a lead of 106 runs, New Zealand got a modest challenge of 107 runs.

New Zealand completed this challenge on the fifth day in 27.4 overs for 2 wickets. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra both led to victory. Will scored 48 not out and Rachin scored 39 not out. Before that, Devon Conway contributed 17 runs. Captain Tom Latham could not even crack a pumpkin. Jasprit Bumrah took both the wickets for Team India. Meanwhile, the second match of the series will be played in Pune from October 24 to 28.
