Riyan Parag’s Debut and Potential Impact
Riyan Parag made his T20 debut on the Zimbabwe tour last month. However, he was not impressed with his game. Still, Team India’s new coach Gautam Gambhir expressed confidence in him. Parag got a place in both the ODI and T20 teams on the Sri Lanka tour. He is making his debut in the third ODI.
Team India has shown the way out to KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh in this match. Bringing Riyan Parag into the team can prove to be a profitable deal. He is a useful off-spinner and he has proved this in T20. Apart from this, he can play the role of a finisher by coming in the lower order and scoring runs quickly. In the last two ODIs, the batting of the Indian team has been very weak. Due to this, the first match was tied and India lost the second match.
To overcome this shortcoming, Gambhir has given a place to new all-rounder Riyan Parag in the team so that he can come in the end and contribute with the bat and also take wickets with his spin. Parag bowled well in the three-match T20 series played against Sri Lanka. In the first T20, he took three wickets for just five runs.

Parag’s Key Performance
Riyan Parag did his job with bowling. He did not let Sri Lankan opener Avishka Fernando complete his century and showed him the way to the pavilion on 96 runs. Fernando hit nine fours and two sixes in 102 balls. Fernando was standing very close to a century. If he had completed his century, it would have been his fourth century in ODIs.
By including Parag, Gambhir aims to strengthen both the batting and bowling departments, hoping to turn the tide in India’s favor in this decisive match.
