IND-W Team (Indian Women’s Team) was eliminated from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. It raises questions about Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy. Harmanpreet Kaur led the team in the 2020 World Cup when the team reached the final.
IND-W Team lost their first match of the tournament against the NZ-W team. Women in Blue lost the match by a big margin which affected the team’s net run rate. However, the Indian Women’s Team defeated the SL-W and PK-W teams. But the Indian Women’s Team once again surrendered in front of AU-W. Due to this Indian Women’s Team was not able to make their place in place in Semifinal. Indian Women’s Team lost the match against AU-W by a margin of 9 runs. Cricket fans trolled team opener Mandhana for the slow start in powerplay.
Indian Women’s Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s performance was not bad in the tournament, but she didn’t get support from the other end. The team’s top-order batsmen and middle-order completely flopped in this mega event. This is one of the main reasons behind the team’s elimination at the group stage.
IND-W Team T20 World Cup Exit Raises Captaincy Debate
Indian Women’s Team head coach Amol Muzumdar and BCCI will hold a meeting with the selection committee to discuss the future of Harmanpreet Kaur as a captain. According to some reports, team management is happy with Kaur’s performance with the bat but they want some young talent to lead the team in the T20 format.
The meeting is expected to take place before the Indian Women’s Team squad announcement for the ODI series against New Zealand on October 24. BCCI and Team management are also focusing on ICC 50 over the World Cup which is scheduled to be hosted in India. They are considering a new captain under whom the team will prepare for this event.
