Jemima Rodrigues Speak Out

After the match, Rodrigues said in the press conference that Kerr knew that she was out and that’s why she started going out. She said, “I was not there when the umpire gave the cap to Deepti. But the New Zealand team was sure that these were two runs and Amelia Kerr said that the over was not over. We also felt the same and we ran her out.”

She said, “Honestly, this is not in our control and we respect the umpire’s decision. But this was a very surprising decision because Kerr also knew that she was run out and that is why she started walking out.” The Ball became Dead when the Umpire handed over the cap to the Bowler (Deepti Sharma), that’s why Amelia Kerr was given not out

What Led to the Decision

During New Zealand’s innings, Deepti Sharma was bowling the 14th over. Kerr took a run on the last ball of the over. She played a shot towards long off and ran to take a run. Harmanpreet Kaur standing there caught the ball but did not throw it. Meanwhile, Deepti took her cap back from the umpire, but in the meantime, Kerr ran for the second run. Seeing this, Harmanpreet declared her run out but the umpires called her back.

When the umpires did not declare Kerr out and called her back, Harmanpreet Kaur got very angry and went to argue with them. But it was of no use. The umpire called Kerr back because as soon as Deepti took the cap from the umpire, the ball became dead and after this the run out was invalid.
