Morne Morkel Appointed as India’s New Bowling Coach
The Indian cricket team has a new bowling coach—South African fast bowler Morne Morkel. This appointment follows the recent change in the coaching staff, where former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was named the head coach, replacing Rahul Dravid. Morkel takes over from Paras Mhambrey and will officially join the team for the upcoming Bangladesh tour, starting next month.

Morkel’s Coaching Experience
Morne Morkel is no stranger to coaching, having previously served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team. His contract with the Indian team begins on September 1, 2024, as confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. Gautam Gambhir, who has a good working relationship with Morkel from their time together at Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, recommended him for the role.
First Assignment: Bangladesh’s India Tour
Morkel’s first assignment as India’s bowling coach will be the Bangladesh tour of the Indian cricket team, which includes two Tests and three T20 matches. The series kicks off on September 19 with the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, followed by the second Test in Kanpur. The T20 series will start on October 6 in Gwalior, with subsequent matches in Delhi and Hyderabad

Bangladesh’s India Tour Schedule:
- First Test: September 19-23, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

Morne Morkel brings with him a wealth of international experience, having played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for South Africa. His addition to the Indian coaching staff is expected to bolster the team’s bowling attack, starting with the challenging series against Bangladesh.
