Injury Hits Pathum Nissanka After Quick Fifty Against New Zealand

Pathum Nissanka Injury: The Sri Lanka cricket team made a good start against New Zealand in the third ODI match being played in Auckland. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando gave a good start to the team. Nissanka scored a half-century in this match, but he went out immediately after that.

Nissanka’s Half-Century Ends in Injury

Nissanka along with Avishka Fernando shared a 66-run partnership for the first wicket. Nissanka had to go out with a total score of 66, which gave a big blow to the Sri Lankan team.

Nissanka completed his half-century on the fourth ball of the 10th over. He completed his 50 runs by taking a run off Nathan Smith’s ball, but then he got a muscle strain and fell on the ground. Nissanka was groaning in pain. After Nissanka fell on the ground, the physio immediately came and looked at the Sri Lankan batsman for some time.

When Nissanka’s condition seemed serious, the physio took him out. Nissanka completed 50 runs in 31 balls which included four fours and four sixes. After his departure, the team’s score had increased by only three runs when Fernando got out. It was Smith who showed him the way to the pavilion. Fernando scored 17 runs.

Mendis Keeps Sri Lanka in the Game

Kusal Mendis, who came after Nissanka, took his place and troubled the New Zealand bowlers a lot. He held one end and kept scoring runs continuously. Mendis scored 54 runs in 48 balls which included five fours and two sixes. Captain Charitha Asalanka got out without opening his account after playing five balls.

Nissanka’s Absence a Concern

Meanwhile, there is no update on Nissanka’s condition yet whether he will be able to participate in the upcoming match or not. He has retired hurt. The absence of Nissanka is a big problem for Sri Lanka.
