IPL Retention: Lucknow Supergiants, who performed exceptionally well in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League, are gearing up for IPL 2024.
The team, owned by Sanjeev Goenka, plans to release 8-9 players before the December 19 auction to increase their account balance by 20-25 crores. In the past two seasons, LSG made it to the playoffs.
As per Cricbuzz reports, LSG, under new coach Justin Langer, will release players like Manan Vohra, Suryansh Shedge, Karan Sharma, and Swapneel Singh.
The team will soon reveal additional names of players set to be released, including some foreign players. Meanwhile, Captain Lokesh Rahul remains with the team.
Punjab’s top-order batsman Vohra played just one game last season. Shedge, Mumbai’s all-rounder, was bought in last year’s auction for his original price of Rs 20 lakh.
Karan Sharma, acquired for 50 lakhs in 2022, played only three games in two seasons. Swapneel, a 32-year-old all-rounder with domestic cricket experience for Baroda and Uttarakhand, was paid Rs 20 lakh last year.
Chennai Super Kings will let go of some big names, including Ben Stokes (out) and the retired Ambati Rayudu.
Dropped players include Bhagat Verma, Subranshu Senapati, Sisanda Magala, and Kyle Jamieson. Kolkata Knight Riders announced the release of Tim Saudi, Lockie Ferguson, and Shardul Thakur.
Delhi Capitals have released Mustafizur Rahman, Riley Rosso, Rovman Powell, and Phil Salt.
