Royal Challengers Bengaluru has done incredible in the IPL 2024 tournament. Initially, after losing consecutive matches, it was not thought that they would make an entry in the playoffs. But destiny had something else in mind. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have secured a spot in the playoffs after losing to Chennai Super Kings by a run.

A colorful match of IPL 2024 took place between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 218 for 5 in 20 overs and set a target of 219 for victory. Chennai Super Kings had to do anything to stop 200 runs to go into the playoffs. Therefore, the bowlers and players of Royal Challengers Bengaluru put everything at stake.  Chennai Super Kings could score 191 runs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won 7 out of 14 matches in the league and entered the playoffs. RCB has achieved this feat by winning six matches in a row. RCB finished fourth in the points table with 14 points and a +0.459 net run rate. Now whether Bengaluru will face Rajasthan Royals or Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs will be known after Sunday’s match.

Key Performances and Playoff Prospects

Glenn Maxwell had a decent performance in the match. He scored 16 runs while batting, hitting 1 six and 2 fours in just five balls. The first over saw the dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad, followed by Daryl Mitchell being sent back by Yash Dayal. A partnership of 66 runs was formed by Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane until Rahane got out, putting Chennai Super Kings in trouble. When Rachin Ravindra was on 61 runs, he was run out, changing the course of the game. Shivam Dubey also couldn’t make an impact and was dismissed after scoring 7 runs.

Mitchell Santner was sent to the home by Mohammed Siraj. When he was on 3 runs, Faf du Plessis took a brilliant catch. There were expectations from Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni but nothing happened. The distance between the run and the ball increased. Yash Dayal bowled brilliantly in the last over. Last season, he was out after hitting five sixes. It was Yash Dayal who showed RCB the path to the playoffs
